Astronaut Academy

As an astronaut preparing for your mission, you will explore robotics, rocketry and aviation as you prepare for your first mission!  Campers will fly a Space Mission, visit the e-Planetarium, and fly planes with our simulators.  Campers will keep the robot they assemble and the rocket they construct.  (Campers will also learn how to program EV3 robots, but they will not be allowed to keep the EV3 robots.)

Rocket Camps

Be a rocket scientist!  Learn the basic skills of rocketry (measuring, cutting, simple gluing, and launching) in Artemis and more skills (advanced gluing, finishing techniques, and Newton’s Laws) in Mercury.  Campers will keep the rockets they construct.  Campers are encouraged to bring sunglasses to wear during rocket launches.

Robotics Camps

Build a robot to keep every day!  All camps will also work with Mindstorm EV3 robots.  (Students will not be allowed to keep the robots constructed with the Mindstorm kits.)

Aviation

Learn about careers in the aviation industry and the basics of flight. These camp focus on how to fly through simulation. Students will also get an opportunity to learn about the history of flight, airplane structural designs and basic flight maneuvers.  For students who would like to earn their Private Pilot Certificate, our Advanced Aviation camps include seminars on topics tested on the FAA’s Private Pilot Knowledge Exam.

***Campers must attend Intro in order to attend Advanced.***

Drones

Campers will learn how to fly a drone safely and ethically.  After learning about the principles of flight, campers will learn drone flight maneuvers and participate in flight control and accuracy challenges.  The Advanced Drone camp also includes seminars on topics tested on the FAA’s Remote Pilot Certification Exam to prepare students for the exam.  In Coding Drone, campers will use block-based coding language to program a drone to perform various maneuvers. (Campers will not be allowed to keep the drones they fly during camp.)

***Campers must attend Intro to Drone in order to attend Advanced Drone.
